They’re found at Gene Coulon Memorial Beach Park early on a wintery morning shoveling snow and salting walkways, mulching park planter beds in spring, raking the sandy beach as days grow longer and changing out bulbs in public light fixtures as the days grow shorter.

Renton Mayor Denis Law and City Council Members recognized these unsung staff members Monday evening by proclaiming July as Parks and Recreation Month.

Steve Brown, Renton Parks and Maintenance Supervisor accepted the proclamation on behalf of the department Monday evening.

“We work really hard and take a lot of pride” in keeping Renton’s parks in pristine condition, Brown said.
