Eastbound 520 Set to Close on Eve of Tolling Start Date

Crews will be installing a final round of tolling signs on the night of Dec. 28.

The Washington State Department of Transportation plans to close all eastbound lanes on the State Route 520 bridge next Wednesday night to make final preparations for the start of tolling.

The closure on eastbound 520 will begin at 11 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 28, with all lanes closed between I-5 and Bellevue Way. The ramps at Montlake Boulevard and Lake Washington Boulevard will close one hour earlier, at 10 p.m.

On westbound 520, crews plan to conduct rolling slowdowns between Montlake Boulevard and the east highrise beginning at 11:59 p.m. During the slowdowns, State Patrol vehicles will maintain a distance between traffic and construction crews. Drivers should expect delays of up to 20 minutes, WSDOT says.

All lanes are scheduled to fully open by 5 a.m. on Thursday, Dec. 29. will officially begin at that time, and WSDOT is urging drivers to purchase their Good to Go passes as soon as possible.
