Information from the City of Renton

Renton, WA – Beginning October 7, the City of Renton will begin demolition of the former Big 5 building on South 3rd Street. The process will take approximately four weeks, weather permitting. Forma Construction is the general contractor for the project. The building is roughly 12,000 square feet and was constructed in 1925. Removal of the building is necessary because of it decrepit condition.

Impacts to the public will be limited to temporary sidewalk closure for the public’s safety, and periodic movement of vehicles in and out of the work zone. The site will be fenced off during the project. The work will include removal of the foundation (which will be replaced with compacted gravel fill) and the installation of a fence on the roadway frontages. The alley side will contain some removable bollards to allow vehicular access for events.
