Quick actions by firefighters prevented this fire from spreading to other units in Building D. One unit is completely destroyed, another has heavy fire and smoke damage. Two units have water damage and three units have smoke damage. All 16 units of the “D” building have had their power and water shutoff for safety. An estimated 30-45 are displaced, however the Seattle Red Cross and the City of Renton had opened the Renton Community Center as a shelter location for those displaced by the fire.

The King County Sheriff’s Office continues to investigate the fire. The fire does not appear to be suspicious in nature at this time, according to investigators, who still need to talk with the occupant of the unit where the fire began.

There were no injuries to firefighters or citizens. Due to the age of the building, fire sprinklers and an automatic fire alarm system are not required.

The Fire District will be visiting the shelter later today to talk with victims of the fire.
