Suspected Burglars Busted After Alert Neighbor Calls 911

An alert Edmonds neighbor has helped land a Renton woman in jail Wednesday after the pair attempted to burglarize an Edmonds home.

Today, shortly after 11 a.m., a 911 call reported suspicious activity at a home in the 23900 block of 104th Ave. W, said Edmonds Police Sgt. Mike Blackburn. The caller said two people approached the front door of a nearby home where the residents were known to be away.

Both suspects wore dark color jackets with scarves or hoods covering their heads.

The witness heard loud banging coming from the front door and, moments later, both suspects left the home carrying items to the trunk of a red Ford Tempo. The witness was able to provide a partial license plate number before the car sped away.

Edmonds police officers found the front door of the home kicked in, which resulted in considerable damage to the door and surrounding door frame. Less than a mile away from the home, an officer spotted and stopped the fleeing suspect vehicle.

The two suspects inside were taken into custody without incident. A 22-year-old South Seattle man and a 21-year old Renton woman were arrested on suspicion of residential burglary.

During the arrest, officers found property stolen from the Edmonds home. The suspects' vehicle was impounded to police storage, where a warrant is being sought for its search.
