Smoke Column From PSE Substation Fire Rises over Eastside

A large column of black smoke appeared over the Eastside around noon and was clearly visible several miles away on Mercer Island.

A Puget Sound Energy substation fire that started around noon today in Redmond is still reportedly burning, causing a large column of black smoke to rise over the Eastside.

According to dispatchers with regional emergency communications hub NORCOM, the substation is located on the 9800 block of Willows Road in Redmond and multiple agencies have responded to fight the fire. The  is on standby but is not currently involved in the response.

According to KOMO.com, power outages and disruptions are occurring all along the Eastside, including Redmond, Medina, Woodinville, Bellevue and Kirkland

The fire is clearly visible from the North-end of Mercer Island, as seen from these photos taken at around 12:30 p.m. from North Mercer Way and 74th Avenue SE.
