A Skyway mother is determined to make good come of her son’s tragic shooting death.

On the two-year anniversary of Alajawan Brown’s fatal shooting outside a Skyway 7-Eleven convenience store, his mother Ayanna hosted a community ‘family reunion’ and announced the launch of the Alajawan Brown Foundation, which will focus on helping those less fortunate in the Skyway and Renton communities.

“He was always talking about making a difference in his community,” Ayanna said, describing how Alajawan brainstormed his community improvement ideas at church and would insist on feeding homeless members in the community.

The Foundation’s first project will be to collect 1,000 backpacks to distribute to needy students.

Ayanna and other volunteers will be outside on Rainier Ave. on July 28 and August 3 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day to collect donations of backpacks and school supplies.

The donations will be distributed on August 24.

, the man who mistook Alajawan for a rival gang member and shot him out of retaliation on April 29, 2010, was found guilty in February 2012.

The shooting rocked the community, but it also brought neighbors closer together, Ayanna said.

“He made out community become a family,” she said.
