Seattle Couple Charged With Assault Of Off-Duty Renton Officer

The assault occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on June 1 in the middle of Renton's busy I-405 and SR- 167 interchange.

A Seattle man, who was convicted of murder, rape and other crimes, and a Seattle woman, also with a long list of convictions, are charged with assaulting an off-duty Renton police officer. 

Tony Lee Combs, 33, and Nancy Walton Drahold, 31, were charged Wednesday with second-degree assault after police say the two attacked 37-year-old Randy Jensen, a 10-year Renton Police Department veteran as he attempted to defuse a possible road rage incident.

The attack occurred just before 1:30 p.m. on June 1 in the middle of Renton's busy I-405 and SR-167 interchange. According to the charging papers, 11 people called 9-1-1 to report the incident. .

Suspects Combs and Drahold claim that the off-duty officer was the one who first approached them, grabbed ahold of Drahold's shirt, and did not show his badge until after the attack. Combs did admit to striking the officer.

Witness' reports confirm that Jensen did show his badge and was assaulted.

Police spoke with 12 witnesses, in addition to Jensen's wife, who saw the attack unfold from inside the family van with their 3-year-old daughter. All the witnesses reported that Jensen was clearly the victim of the attack, according to the charging papers. 

The suspects fled the scene, but were arrested three hours later in the 300 block of Renton Center Way. 

Combs' bail is set at $175,000 and Drahold's bail is set at $100,000. Both have a number of previous convictions on their records.

Combs' convictions include:

  • fourth-degree domestic violence assault, 2004
  • tampering with a witness, 2004
  • custodial assault, 2003
  • disorderly conduct, 2002 
  • domestic violence violation of a protective order, 2002
  • fourth-degree assault, 2002 
  • first-degree criminal trespass, 2002
  • second-degree rape of a child, 2002
  • second-degree murder, 1995
  • taking a car without permission, 1993
  • two assault charges, 1992
  • obstruction, 1992. 

Drahold's convictions include:

  • two charges of loitering, 2010
  • prostitution, 2010
  • fourth-degree domestic violence assault, 2007
  • DUI, 2006
  • two charges for forgery, 2005.
