Renton Police Increase Patrols Near Transit Center

The recent run of good weather has prompted local police to increase patrols in Downtown Renton, especially in and around the Renton Transit Center.

Renton Police and King County Metro Police announced in a press release that "emphasis" patrols focused on enforcing conduct at public transit centers will start in June.

Smoking, littering, loitering, loud music, alcohol consumption/open container of alcohol, skateboarding, biking, and spitting are all prohibited at transit stations and on transit vehicles under the state's Unlawful Transit Conduct statute (RCW 9.91.025).

"While the crime rate at the transit center does not exceed other areas of the city, we recognize that our residents are concerned about criminal activity in the area," said Renton Police Chief Kevin Milosevich. "In addition to our officers that are regularly assigned downtown and at the transit center, our Directed Enforcement Team will work with King County Sheriff’s Metro Bicycle Emphasis Enforcement Squad to remind would-be violators that the Renton Transit Center is not a place for unlawful activity."

During the first week of June, Officers will remind violators of the law and issue warnings for unlawful activity.  After a week of warnings, laws will be aggressively enforced.
