Renton Police are investigating the shooting death of a man found early Friday.
The first call came in at 12:48 a.m. for shots fired near the 300 block of Sunset Boulevard, said Detective Robert Onishi.
The first unit on scene found a Mini Cooper that had rolled down the slope from the parking lot of the , and into a grassy berm. There was one occupant in the car, which was revving at high RPMs and spinning its wheels, Onishi said, possibly because the occupant’s foot may have been stuck on the accelerator.
The car was dripping fluid and left a trail leading up to the parking lot. As the officer approached the revving car, it burst into flames, Onishi said.
Police tentatively believe the driver was a 26-year-old Renton man; however, they are waiting for a formal identification.
The man found in the car was also the victim of a May 17 shooting in the 200 block of Southwest 7th Street.
Police found a number of gunshot holes in the passenger side of the car and casings from two different-caliber weapons, leading them to believe there may be multiple suspects.
