Police to Target Seatbelt and Cellphone Use in Click-it-or-Ticket Campaign

Over a dozen King County law enforcement agencies, including Renton Police, will add extra patrols for ticketing "distracted drivers" from May 20 - June 2.

Over a dozen King County law enforcement agencies — including Renton police — will deploy extra patrols beginning next week to look for unbuckled drivers and passengers and drivers who are on their cellphones.

The extra patrols will be in effect between May 20 and June 2. Last year, during this same time period, officers on routine and extra patrols statewide issued 3,171 seat belt violations and 1,059 cellphone violations.

Auburn, Bellevue, Black Diamond, Burien, Covington, Federal Way, Issaquah, Kent, Kirkland, Maple Valley, Mercer Island, Newcastle, Port of Seattle, Redmond, Renton, Sammamish, SeaTac, Seattle, Tukwila and Woodinville police departments are participating, as well as the Washington State Patrol.
