The following information was released Thursday morning by the Renton Police Department
UPDATE: Renton Police say the shooting victim from Wednesday night’s shooting in Liberty Park was pronounced dead Thursday morning.
The 20-year-old Seattle-area woman was rushed to Harborview Medical Center at around 9 p.m. last night with a single gunshot wound to her torso. Police at the time described the injury as "life-threatening".
Police Det. Rober Onishi said the Renton Police Department is still soliciting the public’s help in identifying witnesses and suspects in this case, and is asking that any tips be routed to police by calling the Renton Police at 425-430-7500, reference case number 13-5506.
Original Post, May 23, 2013 at 09:49 a.m.: Renton Police received a number of 911 calls reporting a shooting Wednesday night at Liberty Park in Renton at 8:27 p.m.
On arrival, responding Officers found a 20 year old woman laying on the east side of the park. From witness accounts and city video monitoring, Police learned that a fistfight had started between two women, each with a group of associates. During the fistfight, at least one man from each of the groups had pulled a gun, and an unknown number of shots were fired between the groups. Following the shooting, most of the subjects present fled.
The victim, who had recently moved back to the Seattle area, suffered a single gunshot wound to the abdomen. She was transported to Harborview and underwent surgery, with injuries described as life threatening. A male subject was detained nearby and questioned by the Police, then released pending further investigation.
