Missing Renton Camper Located At Bottom Of Lake Conconully

Police believe Christopher Campbell accidentally drove off the roadway into the lake.

A Renton man who had been missing since Saturday Nov. 3 was found Wednesday at the bottom of Lake Conconully in Okanogan County, said Okanogan County Sheriff Frank Rogers.

The family of the missing man, 50-year-old Christopher E. Campbell of Renton, notified the Okanogan County Sheriff just before 7 p.m. Saturday after he failed to return home. Campbell had been camping near Fish Lake for quite some time, said Rogers, however the family expected him home that weekend and he was scheduled to work on Monday. 

Police combed the area and townsfolk also organized groups to joined in the search, Rogers said.

A search and rescue team found a broken tree just off the roadway near the bank of Conconully Lake where a dive team located a 1987 Toyota Pickup with a canopy submerged in 12 feet of water. Campbell was inside the truck.

Campbell had no known medical conditions, Rogers said, adding that there was nothing suspicious at the scene and no visible trauma.

"He likely just missed it and couldn't get out of the vehicle," he said.
