Man Hit on I-405 After Exiting Vehicle and Attempting to Cross Freeway

A 27-year-old Seattle man was seriously hurt Friday night when he tried to run across I-405 south of Bellevue.

Washington State Patrol says a Seattle man was struck by a car when he attempted to cross the northbound lanes of Interstate 405 Friday night near 112th Street SE, south of Bellevue.

Joseph L. Barker, 27, was riding in a car driven by a 25-year-old Bellevue woman, Perise Peseta. WSP Trooper Julie Judson told The Seattle Times the two got into an argument while they were pulled to the right side of the interstate, and Barker left the vehicle and attempted to cross the freeway just before 11 p.m.

He was struck by a Jeep Cherokee and taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

The driver of the Cherokee that struck Barker was treated at the scene and released. Peseta was not injured. WSP is still investigating the incident.

It was the second time this week that someone had exited a vehicle on I-405. On Thursday morning, a woman jumped out of a moving car and was nearly hit by a semi in Kirkland.
