Man Accused of Stalking Former Barista, Assaulting Renton Police Officers

A 29-year-old Bellevue man is accused of stalking a barista days after he finished another felony sentence for stalking her as far back as 2011.

A 29-year-old Bellevue man is accused of stalking a barista days after he finished another felony sentence for stalking her.

This time, David Lainez also is accused attacking two Renton Police officers who tried to arrest him.

Lainez faces charges of felony stalking, two counts of third-degree assault on Renton Police officers and one count of resisting arrest, after he was taken into custody June 29 in connection with harassing the woman.

Lainez already has been convicted of stalking the woman, a felony, by harassing her in person and over the phone since 2011 and violating an existing anti-harassment order.

In November 2011, he had reportedly chased her through the parking lot in front of the espresso stand where she worked. In April 2012, he was arrested for harassing her by phone. After pleading guilty in Renton Municipal Court to that charge and being served with an anti-harassment order, he was released from jail but resumed calling her a day later.

After being arrested again in May 2012, he plead guilty to stalking charges in August 2012 and served his sentence, which he completed on June 25.

But according charging papers, on June 29, he was at the woman's new place of employment in Renton, where she called police.

According to police, as officers approached Lainez, he balled his fists and resisted being taken into custody, kicking one officer in the chest and another in the thigh. Officers eventually used a Taser on his back to subdue him.

The woman reportedly told police after Lainez's arrest, "I can't believe he found me."

Lainez is being held in lieu of $500,000 bail. According to the Seattle PI, King County prosecutors are seeking an exceptional sentence meaning if convicted as charged, he could face a longer jail time than the 1 1/2 years outlined by state sentencing rules.

His arraignment is set for Tuesday, July 16 at the Regional Justice Center in Kent.
