Jaywalking Blows Cover of Man with Outstanding Warrant

Jaywalking incident on Grady leads to a felony arrest near downtown Renton.

Late-night traffic along Grady Way near Shattuck Avenue S. was disrupted last night at 9:43 p.m. as a man and woman illegally crossed the busy street.

An officer, who observed traffic stop for the jaywalkers, asked the two to sit on the curb during his investigation of the incident. Although both initially complied with the officer's request, the man eventually ran from the area.

The officer grabbed the fleeing suspect by the shoulders and both fell to the ground. During the scuffle the officer reported that a gun fell from the suspect's waistband onto the ground. During the pursuit the officer injured his knee and was unable to continue after the suspect, who was later found by a K9 tracking unit and arrested.
