Industrial accident claims the life of a 25-year-old-woman in Renton.

A 25-year-old woman died Thursday night in an industrial accident at Smurfit-Stone Recycling in Renton.

A 25-year-old woman died Thursday night in an industrial accident at Smurfit-Stone Recycling in Renton.

"Basically, the machine was jammed," said Battalion Chief John Lecoq. "She tried to fix it, and got sucked in."

Ladder 11, engine 14, a medical supervising officer and an aid unit responded to the facility just before 10 p.m. on Thursday. The first responders shut off the machine and the power, and extracted the woman from the equipment; however, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

"The workers are pretty shook up," Lecoq said.

About 10 employees were on at the time, and a grief counselor has been called in to help the employees cope with the incident.

The firefighters and medics will also have a debriefing, he said.

Operations at the Smurfit-Stone Recycling's Renton location have been shut down and will remain closed for the rest of the evening. Washington State Department of Labor and Industries is expected to visit the location at 7:30 a.m. on Friday to investigate the cause of the accident.

Authorities have not yet released the woman's name.
