Hot Embers Ignite Recyclable Material at Smurfit-Stone

Embers spark small fire at Renton recycling facility.

Renton Fire and Emergency Services responded to a fire at Smurfit Stone Recycling late this morning after hot embers ignited paper material, reported plant manager Gary Moll.

Moll said he and other employees pushed the embers and smoking recyclable material outside and doused it with water. He estimated that the burning pile was roughly 12-feet by 12-feet.

No one was injured during the incident.
