Fire Runs Up Hillside, Threatens Lexington Heights
Firefighters quickly extinguished Monday's fast-moving brush fire off NE 3rd Street behind Lexington Heights Apartments.
Renton Fire and Emergency Services responded to a call for a 3-foot-by-3-foot grass fire on the hillside along N.E. 3rd Street just after 12:15 p.m. September 17.
Firefighters arrived to find the blaze quickly spreading up the hillside toward Lexington Heights and quickly contained the flames with foam, "big water" and a temporary closure of the busy four-lane street. The fire was likely sparked by a cigarette or other hot object tossed from a passing car and the apartment complex was unharmed.
Battalion 12 and Engines 11, 12 and 16 responded in addition to Brush Unit 17. Fire officials will be on high alert for at least the next two weeks due to the "extended summer weather" predicted by forecasters.
