Fatal Accident Closes Traffic on Rainier Avenue Thursday

One person was killed in an automobile accident on North Rainier Avenue on Thursday afternoon. A high rate of speed may have played a role in the accident, police said.

A fatal one-car collision closed Rainier Avenue North shortly before 4 p.m. Thursday afternoon. The accident occurred in the 400 block of Rainier Avenue, just west of the Renton airport. The Renton Police Department is investigating the crash. The police said the crash possibly was caused by a high rate of speed.

The automobile was wrapped around a tree and it was engulfed in flames when the Renton Fire Department arrived. The fire department confirmed that the man inside the vehicle was deceased.

The name of the driver has not been released.
