Fairview Apartment Fire Displaces Two

Renton Fire and Emergency Services responded to an apartment fire on Saturday, Dec. 3 at 14600 SE 176th St. to find 10-foot flames coming from an apartment window.

The department was dispatched at 11:27 p.m. and arrived at Fairview Apartments within 5 minutes of the call, according to officials. Seven engines, two aid cars, two ladder trucks and four battalion chiefs from Renton responded for a total of 38 firefighters on scene. King County Medic 5, MSO 1, King County Police Department, and Kent Fire Department also responded.

The fire resulted in an estimated loss of $60,000, according to the King County Fire Investigator and was the result of a towel on a baseboard heater.

No one was injured during the blaze, but two residents were displaced by the fire. Red Cross has contacted the residents for assistance.

Home heaters are a leading cause for residential fires during the months of December, January and February, said Battalion Chief John Lecoq.
