Empty Gas Tank Ends High Speed Chase On I-405

The King County Sheriff's Office reports that a Renton man, who led police on a high-speed chase, surrendered after his car ran out of gas.

The Renton man who led King County deputies on a high speed chase Tuesday didn't surrender because he had a change of heart, instead his car ran out of gas. 

The King County Sheriff's Guardian One Helicopter team captured this amazing aerial video footage of the chase and capture.

The man allegedly robbed a home in the North Bend area with the holp of a woamn from Renton. Police captured his accomplicae after she attempted to cash a check that was stolen during their earilier break-in. Although police arrested the woman at a Snoqualmie bank branch, the man fled the scene.

King County deputies and officers from the City of Sammamish pursued the man west on I-90. The King County Sheriff helicopter Guardian 1 was able to monitor the pursuit from above, which allowed the deputies on the ground to back off.

As the video posted on YouTube shows, the man appears to give up and pulls to the side of the road after getting onto I-405. Police immediately swarm the suspect car and arrest the driver. The car was sealed and towed to a secure facility while waiting for a search warrant.

During a search of the car, detectives discovered it had run out of gas and that is why the man stopped running. They also recovered a handgun that was stolen in the burglary along with multiple identification cards.

Detectives are continuing their investigation into the criminal activities of the pair.
