Deputy Chief Tim Troxel of the Renton Police Department was placed on administrative leave today, Thursday, May 3 pending an internal investigation, said City Communications Director Preeti Shridhar.
Troxel has been with the department since 1984 and was promoted to deputy chief in 2007. The Department has only one deputy chief, Shridhar said, adding that Police Chief Kevin Milosevich will take over Troxel’s duties while he is on administrative leave.
This is not related to a previous internal investigation of Troxel in 2010. The previous investigation found that Deputy Chief Tim Troxel demonstrated “unbecoming conduct” for asking an on-duty officer to help him stake out the home of his then-girlfriend, also a city employee, whom he suspected of having a relationship with someone else.
His initial proposed discipline of a 40-hour suspension without pay was reduced to 24 hours without pay when it was finalized in February 2012.
The current investigation does not involve the that surfaced last summer.
Chief Milosevich released this statement Thursday afternoon:
““Effectively immediately, Deputy Police Chief Tim Troxel has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation on alleged violation of city’s policies. The Renton Police Department has sought the assistance of an outside investigator to conduct this investigation. We are unable to provide any additional details at this time to preserve the integrity of the investigation and to ensure an unbiased outcome. I will be assuming all the duties and responsibilities of the deputy chief. Once the investigation is complete we will share additional details and bring you updates on our findings and the actions we take.”
