Car Theft Suspect Escapes Renton Police After Fleeing Stolen Vehicle

Several officers searched unsuccessfully for the male suspect, who fled a traffic stop, ditched the stolen car in an alley and ran.

Several Renton police officers searched unsuccessfully Wednesday afternoon for a car theft suspect who ditched a stolen vehicle along Sunset Boulevard and fled on foot.

A Renton Patch reader reported traffic being disrupted by police activity Wednesday at about 2:30 p.m. in the area of Sunset Boulevard NE and Aberdeen Avenue.

Renton Police Department Det. Robert Onishi said an officer first attempted to pull over the suspect.

“The driver fled the stop and drove into an alleyway, leaving the vehicle on foot,” he said. “We had a large number of officers out, but we couldn’t find him. We tried to call in a K9 unit but could not find one conveniently available.”

The car, which was left in the 900 block of Sunset Boulevard, was impounded after the incident.
