The 10-foot by 4-foot banner was ripped from the front of the museum today. Anyone with information should contact the Renton Police Department.

A large banner advertising the "” exhibit was stolen from the front of the Renton History Museum today.

The man who stole the sign briefly entered the museum, then left before he snatched the 10-foot by 4-foot banner, said Collections Manager Sarah Samson.

The theft occurred around 11:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 15 and the perpetrator did it in plain view of traffic. One woman, who witnessed the sign being torn from the building while waiting at the stop light at the intersection of Houser Way and Mill Avenue, called the museum from her cell phone to alert staff and volunteers of the theft.

Samson called 9-1-1 after being notified of the theft. A volunteer who saw the man was able to provide police with a description. The thief is described as a Caucasian man between 20-30 years of age, wearing a black hoody sweatshirt, has a skinny build and is of average height.

β€œIt is the best, most inexpensive form of advertising we have,” Samson said of the stolen banner, which cost the museum about $200.
