King County Sheriff's Office detectives are searching for package-delivery thieves in the Benson Hill area Monday afternoon soon after an alert neighbor photographed their getaway car.
A contributor on Renton Patch's facebook page, Chrystal Marner, broke the news in the contribution below, which occurred near SE 192nd St. and 116th Ave. SE in unincorporated Renton near Benson Hill Elementary School.
"This is a heads up to all residents in the Benson Hill/Cascade/Fairwood area: At 1:17 this afternoon, a fellow neighbor was visited by a 'FedEx Thief'. Luckily another neighbor was home and was able to not only able to turn the criminal over to cops quickly, but was able to share this image for others. There was a coincidence of a blue motorcycle 'casing' our cul de sac just before this car appeared. The criminal was bold enough to back into the driveway and take the package with neighbors out maintaining their yard and the actual resident being at home."
Marner later added that she wasn't certain if this motorcycle was a part of the crime, but her surveillance video shows him circling and swerving through our cul-de-sac just before the car arrived and the car was focused on this particular resident's house.
Another commenter on Patch stated that the photographed car matched a description of a car that was stealing packages from the Fairwood area around Christmastime last December.
"It's important to note how bold the criminal was as he didn't mind that the next door neighbor was doing yard work barely 40 ft from the porch," Marner said. "The criminal also pulled into the driveway right next to the resident's own vehicle. They are quick and they want to believe people will just overlook them."
Renton Patch left a message with King County Sheriff's Office spokesperson Sgt. Cindi West for additional information in the case, and will provide updates on this story as they become available.
