Run from the Cops 5K This Saturday, August 24
Some officers will be running in full police gear weighing upwards of 10 pounds - can you beat them?
It is not too late to register for the Run from the Cops 5K nighttime run this Saturday, August 24 at The Landing.
Patch checked in with Renton Police Officer LeAnn Whitney this week to get an idea of what edge most runners have over the officers who will be running in full police gear. Beat an officer and you get bragging rights. Beat 30 minutes on the clock and you get to skip out of the holding pen you'll be corralled into for not being able to outrun police.
The 'penalty' is all in the spirit of fun, Whitney said, where runners can have pseudo booking photos taken with officers with or without handcuffs. Think it might be fun to scare mom that you're 'in custody'? What are you waiting for?
All proceeds benefit Special Olympics Washington. Day of registration costs $50 with tables opening at about 9 p.m., Whitney said. The run starts at 10 p.m.
