Health & Fitness

Suddenly I really love the Seahawks.

I've got my lucky Seahawks t-shirt (that I bought at Fred Meyer 2 weeks ago). I got everyone in the family a shirt to wear tomorrow. I got my lucky Seahawk necklace and my husband has his Seahawk beer coozie. We've got our twelve sign in the window and our "I'm in!" sign on the fridge.  I never cared about football until these past few months and now suddenly I AM FREAKING OUT EXCITED.

I love that hawk and how he's suddenly all over town. As far as logos go it's a good one – a graphic designed version of native Northwest art.  I like the 12s too. The bigger the better.

Full Disclosure: I didn't grow up here. I moved here 3 years ago. I'm an east coast ex-pat and I love it here. I never loved football before though so it's weird that I've actually watched the last few games. It was even weirder when I found myself yelling at the television, pacing the rec room, and biting my nails (which tonight I painted blue and green with stars and stripes and space needles and 12s).

What's happening to me? Whatever it is, it's fun. But nervewracking!  Am I a fair weather fan? I'd like to think of myself as a newbie.  Am I a sucker for shelling out top dollar for Seahawks swag? Yes, but I'm stimulating the economy. Plus, I'm making friends! People are nicer when they know you're on their team. Also? Blue and green are pretty awesome colors.

Am I just jumping on the bandwagon at the last minute? Maybe. But it's fun on this wagon and the longtime fans are welcoming me with open arms so I think I'll stay and yell with them at the top of my lungs.  It's fun to see your city in the spotlight.
