The New and Improved Tavaris Jackson

Tavaris Jackson shines in a very close game against the heavily favored Falcons.

It was a good but nearly a great week for Seattle as they almost pulled off a comeback against the favored Atlanta Falcons. Unfortunately, they lost 30-28 and fall to 1-3 overall, 1-1 in the NFC West Division.

The star was clearly Tavaris Jackson. He looked like a new man out there on the field. He finished the game with a season-high 319 yards and was 25-for-38 with three touchdowns and a pair of interceptions.

However, the interceptions weren't necessarily Jackson’s fault. Both were tipped passes and one should have been a touchdown when a member of the Falcons secondary ball jarred the ball out of tight end Zach Miller's hands in the end zone.

The Seahawks may have won if Miller caught that ball.

I have been , but he proved me wrong this weekend with a near 96.3 quarterback rating. He showed poise in the pocket and displayed great decision-making.

And when the pocket broke down, he got rid of the ball. He wasn't sacked at all throughout the game. His offensive line took care of him this week, and I was very impressed with them as well. There had been much talk leading up to the game about wide receiver Mike Williams being non-existent in Seattle’s offense thus far. Jackson made sure to get Williams some touches.

He scored his first TD of the season. Jackson spread the ball around nicely. You really can’t ask for much more out of your quarterback.

One of the biggest adjustments Seattle made in the second half was going to the no-huddle offense. Jackson benefited from it as well as the rest of the offense. When you run no huddle you keep the base defense on the field and do not allow them enough time to make personnel changes or substitutions.

I would not be surprised to see it more earlier in the game, perhaps as soon as next week when Seattle goes on the road to play the New York Giants.

I'm backing off Jackson to allow him to grow into a new system. Backup Charlie Whitehurst will have to sit on the sidelines and cheer his counterpart on. Things are looking up for Jackson and after the rough start he has had.

The only place to go from here is up. Way up.
