I Registered For A Triathlon, Now What?

A blog by a first-time triathlete.

It’s official. I registered for my first sprint-distance triathlon. No turning back now.

Next week I’ll be swimming, biking and running around Kent in the Lake Meridian Triathlon.

I’ve dangled my toes in the water for some time now. I even tried to register for the Anacortes Triathlon two years ago after being coaxed into training by a friend, but it was full (oh darn, right?). Over the last couple years I’ve participated in a handful of races including the Whidbey Island Half Marathon in 2010 (on a dare; read more about it here), , and I rode my old college clunker in the 2010 and 2011 Cycle the Wave events in Issaquah.

But the challenge of the triathlon kept calling my name.

After Whidbey, I no longer had the excuse that running wasn’t my thing. That, and I actually like it now. Following the half marathon the lack of a road bike became my next best excuse, but I got my very own snazzy red and white road bike for my birthday last year. And I love it!

It appears I’ve run out of excuses, talked to too many people who’ve been “bitten” by the triathlon bug, and curiosity finally gotten the best of me.

So here it goes. I’ll be blogging up to the event and welcome any advice, tips and tricks from triathletes — post your words or wisdom below in the comment section. It’ll be much appreciated by this tri newby!
