University Book Store Will Stay At The Landing
Originally a "pop up" location with a temporary lease, the store experienced strong sales since opening in mid-Oct. 2012.
The University Book Store at in Renton is here to stay.
“University Book Store was happy with the sales they saw during the “trial” short term lease and have in fact extended to a longer term lease,” said Heidi Happonen of The Fearey Group.
The independently owned Book Store has an association with the University of Washington, but it is not state owned, said Rachael Egar, an employee at the main store who helped get The Landing location ready for its debut last fall.

The University Book Store carries the regular Husky gear in addition to new, used and bargain general interest books.
“Overall, holiday sales at The Landing were up over last year,” Happonen said. “This is the third consecutive year of positive sales growth, which has led to increased inquiries from other potential tenants.”

Suzanne Dale Estey, City of Renton’s economic development director, was happy to hear about the lease extension and is hopeful other prospective tenants take note.
"We're thrilled that University Book Store has joined The Landing as a tenant long-term. The Landing has great dining, entertainment, shopping and service options and a bookstore was a missing element in its retail choices,” she said. “We hope the community will continue to support Landing tenants and other local businesses so other retailers will continue to want to come join us in Renton."
Bob Baker of Harvest Partners, owners of The Landing, said he and his partners are finding that “Renton is a great community and a great place to do business.”
There may be several new storefronts opening at The Landing in the near future.
“As the current tenants at The Landing continue to show growth, we are seeing increased interest from prospective tenants who are taking note of our success,” Baker said.
