University Book Store To Open Friday

The store will offer Husky gear and general interest books.

will get a heavy dose of Husky starting Friday when its newest storefront, University Book Store, is scheduled to open β€” and just in time for the .

Store manager Patrice Manwaring and other Book Store employees worked all week to get the space ready, which included a lot of purple paint, the addition of store fixtures and stocking of merchandise.

The independently owned Book Store has an association with the University of Washington, but it is not state owned, said Rachael Egar, an employee at the main store who helped get The Landing location ready for its Friday debut.

The new location is what's known as a "pop up" store, meaning that it is only open on a temporary basis. If the store performs well, it may stick around.

"This is going to be a test run," said Egar. "We're hoping that it'll turn into a long-term lease and that Renton is excited to have us."

The University Book Store will have the regular Husky gear in addition to new, used and bargain general interst books. The store will not carry text books.

As of Wednesday afternoon the store was still looking to hire four employees in addition to the two already on board.

"The jobs may not be open by the time this gets out," Manwaring said, as two more prospective job seekers walked in the doors to pick up applications.

The store is located in the same space as former tenant Savvy Traveler that closed in April 2011 before its lease was up.
