The hip doughnut shop will again fill the need for a locally owned cafe with espresso, tea and a variety of other beverages in addition to fresh doughnuts and other food items from Macrina Bakery. Opening day may be as early as November 23, better known as Black Friday, but no later than December 1, said co-founder Mark Klebeck.

As Top Pot afficionados know, this Seattle-based icon isn't a traditional doughnut shop. The Renton location will eventually have an onsite bakery. In the meantime, fresh treats will be driven down from the store's Bellevue location until the bakery is complete in early 2013. The new year will also bring with it the launch of Top Pot ice cream, were patrons can purchase individual scoops or order pints to go.

The new location will offer plenty of indoor and outdoor seating. Expect a host of special event offerings soon.

Top Pot will host Seahawks wide receiver Golden Tate on December 8 (time TBA). The next special guest will be by Caspar Babypants (aka Chris Ballew from The Presidents of the United States of America) in 2013, as well as other musical performances.

When asked, "Why Renton?" Klebeck didn't hesitate to elaborate.

"Like Ballard, Wedgwood and Redmond, Renton is this super cool south end community rich in history and industry. We have had the good fortune of being embraced by these communities and similarly, it just felt right to us," he said. "Renton-based employers such as Boeing solidify Renton and is an industry we look forward to serving. The patrons and employees of McLendon hardware have demonstrated this since we opened two years ago."

For those Rentonites and home-improvement types who've grown fond of a Top Pot treat from the mobile café at McLendon Hardware — never fear, the shiny airstream isn't going away.

Tentative hours of operation for Top Pot at The Landing will be Mon.-Fri. 6 a.m. - 7 p.m.  and Sat.-Sun. 7 a.m. - 7 p.m. A phone number will be published just prior to opening.
