The Landing In Renton Continues To Grow

The Landing announced three new tenants in February; announcement of a new 'major tenant' may soon follow.

The Landing in Renton is in the advanced stages of signing another major tenant at one of the largest spaces in The Landing, said Suzanne Dale Estey, Economic Development Director for the City of Renton of the Harvest Partnership, owners of The Landing.

According to Dale Estey, 80 percent of the retail space is filled and 83 percent of the residential space (The Sancturary and The Reserve) is occupied.

The Landing continues to grow, although perhaps not at the pace and direction anticipated by some Renton residents, as expressed on Facebook following the outdoor shopping area’s February announcement of three new tenants.

A Facebook tease, “We have some exciting news to share — three new retailers! Stay tuned, we'll tell you tomorrow,” ended in disappointment for some Landing shoppers and residents.

The new tenants, RE/MAX Select Real Estate, A+ Hearing Aid Center and Renton Children's Dentistry, were not what the vocal majority of The Landing’s Facebook fans expected for the announcement.

“I have to agree a little with the comments here.. I am glad that businesses are moving in, but the Landing needs more upscale eateries!! Kind of disappointed in this big announcement,” Tandy Ray DiMeo of Renton wrote in response to the announcement. “The Landing needs to be a place where local Renton people can go to for a nice night out. As of right now, there are like 3 places where people can go and sit down, have a nice dinner, and have a cocktail. So every time I try to go with my husband, we end up leaving frustrated because those 3 or so places are packed and there are no other options … Is this is place where you mail a package or have a night out?? I'm confused.”   The new tenants are showing sighs of life as they getting their new storefront ready. Over the weekend a banner appeared over the soon-to-be Renton Children's Dentistry, located next to GO Dentistry.

Construction of the new offices interiors have begun at the new storefronts along Park Avenue underneath The Sanctuary Residential Apartments, said Terri Paller of The Landing Onsite team. The stores have yet to set opening dates, but Paller said the businesses are slated to open in late spring or early summer.

The Landing Onsite team continues to “actively pursue a grocer,” she said.

Dale Estey said it’s better to have the storefronts occupied than remain empty. But filling empty retail spaces is not The Landing’s only goal.

"The Landing is working hard to find qualified tenants that fit the great mix of retail options already there,” she said. “The financial and lending climate is still tenuous and retail is transforming so very few businesses are expanding — but I know The Landing ownership has an aggressive strategy to continue to add tenants."
