Did You Successfully Pre-Order the iPhone 5?

iPhone 5 pre-orders sold out in one hour Friday.

After months of speculation and rumors of the new iPhone 5’s features, Apple Inc. opened pre-order sales to thousands of eager iPhone fans Friday at 12 a.m.

Within one hour, pre-orders had sold out, compared to a 20-hour time period for the iPhone 4 and 22 hours for the iPhone 4s, according to the Huffington Post. (No word on how many iPhone 5s Apple had available for this first batch of orders.)

Said an Apple spokeswoman to AllThingsD: “We’ve been completely blown away by the customer response.”

For those who weren’t able to snatch a pre-order but want to cradle that new iPhone 5 on the first available day, you can still wait in line at Apple stores to buy next Friday, Sept. 21.

And those who were able to place a pre-order still may not get their hands on them by the expected shipping date of Sept. 21.

Apple’s website states it will take at least two weeks to deliver the phone in the U.S., the UK, Canada, Australia and Germany.

CNET reports that Verizon has pushed delivery dates back to Sept. 28, while AT&T has said iPhone orders will be shipped in 14 to 21 business days.

How was your experience trying to purchase the iPhone 5? Do you plan to camp out at an Apple store to buy one next week? Or is the hype overblown? Let us know in the comments.

Wish I hadn't Pre-ordered mine... Should have planned to stand in line and actually get the iPhone 5 on the 21st! At AT&T when I Pre-ordered the iPhone 5 they stated availability on the 21st. The next day I get an email that states 2-3 weeks. What a Bunch of "malarkey"! Told I can't even cancel the order... Argh!!!
