$6 Billion Deal: British Travel Firm Announces Big 737 Max Order

TUI Travel says the deal is contingent on shareholder approval, but will include 60 Renton-built 737 Max jets with an option for 90 more.

A British travel company has announced plans to buy 60 Boeing 737 Max jets with an option for 90 more. The 737, considered the most jet in the history of commercial aviation, is built at Boeing’s Renton plant.

The Puget Sound Business Journal reports that TUI Travel PLC will buy 40 737 Max-8s and 20 larger 737 Max-9s, which seat about 10 percent more passengers. The deal depends on shareholder approval but is worth more than $6 billion.

The Journal quoted the company as saying it "has secured a significant discount to the list price of each aircraft through various concessions, allowances and support from Boeing."

TUI Travel operates six airlines with 141 planes, including Thomson Airways, which this week took delivery of its first Boeing 787 Dreamliner.
