Two Farmers Markets Open Next Week in Renton

The Renton Farmers Market at the Piazza's opening day is Tuesday, June 7.

At 2:45 p.m., the Mayor will ring the cowbell signifying the opening of the market for its 10th season. And this year, another market — a smaller one, with an emphasis on health and wellness – will open on Sunday, June 12 at Valley Medical Center in the parking lot off of Talbot Road at the hospital. The new market will have about two dozen vendors.

The Tuesday Renton Farmer’s market will showcase, as it has in the past, Washington-grown agricultural products such as beef, sausages, and eggs; fruits and vegetables; and flowers galore. In addition, the Tuesday market has information available from Master Gardeners, a children’s activity booth, a community information table, and weekly chef demonstrations. There are approximately 55 vendors at the market.

The Chef Demos start each week at 4:30p.m. Participants for the Chef’s Demo this year include some new faces, including the Renton High School culinary arts students, Panera Bread, and Luther’s Table.

Some favorite Chef’s Demo participants will return this year, including: , Merrill Gardens, Seattle Cancer Treatment and Wellness Center, , , and .

The downtown Renton market will be alive with music each week, too. Visitors can expect to hear the tropical sounds of Biff Moss on June 14, Susanna Fuller, a jazz vocalist in July, and look forward to the ever-popular Darrell Data, and Mike Simpson’s Jazz Horn in August.

For opening day, visitors can sample food from and enjoy the sounds of RJ & Company.

The Valley Medical Center Market, whose catch phrase is “Remarkable Things grow here” will be open from noon to 4 p.m. on Sundays, starting June 12. It will feature organic produce and emphasize health and wellness. The hospital will sponsor a weekly wellness booth. The first week will feature information about Breast Health, and the following week will feature dietitians providing information about antioxidants.

The Renton Farmers Market, one of the strongest in the region, draws  between 3,500-4,000 visitors per week to downtown Renton. The complete schedule of events from opening day through the end of September is available here.
