Salvation Army, Walmart Partner To Make Season Bright For Renton Families In Need

Salvation Army volunteers will be at Walmart in Renton this Saturday, December 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect new toys and coats.

If your family enjoys a comfortable holiday season, think of giving back to the community this year so others may enjoy a happy holiday. 

As part of the Salvation Army’s 122nd annual Red Kettle Campaign, volunteers will be at Walmart in Renton this Saturday, December 8 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. to collect new toys and coats for Renton youth who might otherwise go without this winter.

Dubbed the “Fill the Truck” event, volunteers will distribute lists of “needed” items to shoppers and encourage them to purchase one or more of the suggested items to donate on their way out of the store.

 “This holiday season, we’re proud to work with Walmart to help the less fortunate in our community,” said Captain Chris Aird, Corps Officer at The Salvation Army in Renton. “With strong support from generous shoppers, we know we can bring smiles to more children this Christmas." 

In addition to the “Fill the Truck” event this weekend, . All donations made to the red kettles will remain in Renton, and help The Salvation Army provide food, clothing, shelter, financial assistance and other services, said Aird.

In addition to Walmar’s partnership with the Salvation Army for the “Fill the Truck” event,” the Walmart Foundation also made a $1 million donation to The Salvation Army’s national Red Kettle Campaign.
