Record Crowds Flock to Return to Renton Car Show

Combine great weather, 3,000 people and more than 400 automobiles and what do you get? A car enthusiast's dream.

Sunny skies on Sunday afternoon drew a record crowd of more than 3,000 people to see more than 400 cars at the 21st annual Return to Renton Annual car show.

Proceeds from the show and sponsorships all go to local youth programs .

Kids and parents were munching hot dogs and shaved ice, viewing cars, dancing to music, watching limbo contests, and listening to live musical entertainment from the Carco Theater Teen Musical.

There were multiple award winners at the show, including:

*Lovable License Plate Award, "Swedest" awarded to local business owner Bill Gaw (Cugini Florist) for his 1973 orange Volvo wagon.

*Favorite American Car—Renton Police Athletic Association, Sheila Young, 2007 War Eagle, Red.

*The "Make me Smile Award" (pictured) sponsored by Jim Sullivan State Farm Insurance was given to Dunn the Pinstriper, for his 1948 Crosley Pintriper Gold Tiki Taxi.

*Steve Maxwell Memorial Trophy—sponsored by the Dochnahl Family—was awarded to Tamara Ottinger for a yellow Dodge Dart. The Maxwell trophy is given to a car for a 1960s or 1970s "muscle car".

*People's Choice Award, sponsored by Holmes Electric, was a 1941 Salmon Willy's Coupe.

Jim Medzegian, the chair of the Return to Renton Car Show, said that a couple who wished to remain anonymous has pledged $1,000 for next year. They have been pleased that the car show has come so far, and hope to support it in the future. The donor was the winner of the 1991 T-shirt contest.
