Patch Picks for Mother's Day Gifts

The Special women in your life deserve a little pampering on Mother's Day. Here are Patch's Picks for some great gifts.

Mother’s Day is upon us, and it is time to celebrate the special women in your life. Some pampering, some baubles, or a day free of cooking and cleaning is in order.  Here are Patch’s 5 Picks for Mother’s Day gifts.

1. Nothing says thank you for driving the kids to all those soccer matches, dance lessons and sleepovers like diamonds. The folks at would like to help you pick out the perfect bauble, from a variety of price ranges, that any woman would love.

Does your wife need a new watch? Find it there in rose gold, silver, or gold. The jeweler, in business since 1953, prides itself on providing the best customer service around. The selection of jewelry is unique and beautiful. It’s Mother’s Day, so how about a Mother-of-Pearl heart pendant, surrounded by diamonds? Or, perhaps she might fancy a pair of diamond earrings or a tennis bracelet?

Owner Gary Slotnik tells me that they are carrying half-price 14kt earrings and that 'colored' gold, especially chocolate gold, is popular right now. (Chocolate and gold, I mean, come on, who could go wrong with that?)

Garland also has two new lines of giftware-Nambe and Michael Aram with price points starting at $20.

Any one of these gifts is sure to make an impression on your wife or mom.

2. Is your mom a cook? Does your wife create special meals all year long? The first thing that you and the kids can do is make her breakfast in bed, on the day she doesn’t need to cook. And, please don't leave the mess for her to clean up!

But how about a few kitchen gadgets to make her life easier for the rest of the year?

As I cook myself, I know any cooking lady in your life would treasure some Le Creuset cookware. at The Landing carries a large selection of cast iron cookware and bakeware in a lot of great colors to coordinate with your special ladies’ kitchen (cherry red, lemon, lime green, vibrant blue, just to name a few). They also carry fine French pottery, Italian ceramics and murano glass.

3.  is open on Mother’s Day, and you can take your mom, or the special woman in your life shopping and receive 10% off your purchases. The nice part about gifts from happy delusions is that items are all handcrafted by local folks. This is the kind of store that you need to stop in frequently, because offerings often change. Happy Delusions offers unique costume jewelry, hand-knitted scarves and hats, notecards, fun retro items, and items sure to bring a smile.

 4. Would your wife like to dine out on Mother’s Day?

Brunch is always popular, but maybe you have 'been there and done that' in the past. How about dinner out instead? Try the four-course dinner at The Melting Pot for a romantic date night with your sweetie. There are a lot of options, but the classic is cheese fondue for starters, a salad (several choices), your choice of mixed meat entrees, and chocolate fondue for dessert. There are three Melting Pot locations nearby—one in Bellevue, one in Seattle, and one in Tacoma.

If you must do brunch because your mom prefers it, my pick for the most unique is the Waterways Brunch cruise which departs from Southport at Lake Washington.

You’ll get a champagne toast when you arrive, and during the two hour cruise you’ll get live music. The menu includes a prime rib carving station, poached eggs on brioche with pesto and parmesan Cheese, a seafood and sushi bar, and blueberry pecan french toast.

5. Schedule a spa day at or . Both are at The Landing. Don’t give her a gift certificate, because she won’t schedule it herself. She’s too busy. Check with each business to tailor the  package for your special lady.

If you schedule it for her on a late morning, pick her up around three, and then stop at for happy hour, and a glass of wine and appetizers. If she’s not too sleepy after her massage and the wine, you might also treat her to an all around great day and end it with a movie at Regal Cinemas.

Patch’s Picks are for five gifts for Mother’s Day. This is my bonus gift to you, readers, and the woman in your life, for Mother’s Day. Let her sleep.
