North Renton Neighborhood Association announced plans to place hundreds of small American Flags on local thoroughfares, hoping the Memorial Day decorations are the start of an annual tradition for the neighborhood.
Volunteers will place the flags along long Bronson Way and 2nd Avenue on May 25. This neighborhood project is to show community connection and caring for our city and neighborhood, say organizers Jim and Cathy Matthew. They said the Memorial Day flag decoration has been planned for over a year.
The flags will stay up from Memorial Day week end through Labor Day Week end yearly.
"We hope to encourage the neighborhoods around the city to fly the flag as a show of community connection and caring for our neighbors," Jim and Cathy Matthew wrote in an email to Renton Patch.
