Moms Talk: Would You Hack Into Your Kid's Facebook Account?

If you could hack into you children's online profiles, would you?

Moms Talk is a new feature on Renton Patch that is part of an initiative on our Patch sites to reach out to moms and families.

Moms, dads, grandparents and the diverse families who make up our community will have a new resource for questions about local neighborhood schools, the best pediatricians, 24-hour pharmacies and the thousands of other issues that arise while raising children.

Moms Talk will also be the place to drop in for a talk about the latest parenting hot topic. Do you know of local moms raising their children in the Tiger Mother's way and is it the best way? Where can parents get information on local flu shot clinics for children? How can families help local schools weather budget cutbacks?

This week, our question comes from a Parenting.com blog. In New Jersey, one police chief is hosting seminars that teach parents how to hack into their children's Facebook accounts.

In a story from NBC New York, Mahwah Police Chief James Batelli is quoted as saying, “Trust sounds good. It’s a good cliché. (But) to stick your head in the sand and think that, in 9th, 10th, 8th grade, your child is not going to be exposed to alcohol, is not going to be exposed to drugs is kind of a naïve way to go about it.”

According to the story, Batelli teaches parents how to install monitoring software, uncover their children's passwords and view all the activity that occurs on their accounts.

What do you think? If you had the opportunity, would you like to learn how to hack into your children's Facebook accounts?
