MOM'S ESCAPE: The Local Festival Edition

Summer festivals continue on this summer, rain or shine. Check out these offerings for your escape into local fun and flair (with or without the kids) in our special festival edition!

Summer isn't over yet, folks. There's still plenty to celebrate.

Local festivals abound this month and in August, and you needn't go far to join in the fun.

Whether you check out these festivals on your own, with friends, or decide to bring the whole family, you won't be disappointed.

Here's your guide to good times. To make it easy, Patch has added links to click on to get more information about each event.

This great city event is scheduled from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Aug. 6 at . Join the annual city party and celebrate with great food, entertainment, sports, kid's activities, and so much more.


Fircrest Fun Days

This terrific two-day event (Aug. 12 from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., and Aug. 13 from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m.) happens at Fircrest Park. Fun Days features food, entertainment, a parade (Saturday) and even fireworks in the park at dusk on Saturday night!


Steilacoom Salmon Bake

This annual event takes place on July 31 at picturesque Sunnyside Park from noon to 4 p.m. A salmon or hot dog meal is available for purchase (click on the link to see the details on pricing, tickets, and parking). Live entertainment and storytelling will also be highlighted.


Gig Harbor Wine and Food Festival:  With Gig Harbor's beautiful waterfront as the backdrop, the Aug. 6 festival features wine and food bliss. Wine tastings, cooking demonstrations, and a celebrity chef cook-off is a foodie's dream. Click on the link for more information on pricing and tickets.


The 15th Annual Classic Car Show:  Vroom, vroom! The South Tacoma Business District is holding their classic car show on Aug. 20 between South 50th and South 56th Streets on South Tacoma Way. There will be over 300 cars on display and much more. The small entry fee supports the local food bank. See site for details.


Proctor Arts Fest: This lively annual festival and sidewalk sale located in the heart of the eclectic and historic Proctor District in Tacoma is happening Aug. 5-6. Score some great deals on goods from local businesses at the district sidewalk sale and enjoy art work and juried art show, performing arts, food, entertainment, and a dog parade.


The 19th Annual Maritime Fest: Located on the gorgeous Thea Foss Waterway in Tacoma, Maritime Fest takes place Aug. 27-28 from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. each day. Learn about boats, take a free harbor tour, see some hydroplanes, and have great food and drink to celebrate Tacoma's waterfront.

Goodness, and here I thought that most of them had come and gone! Woohoo. I love festival goodness. Goes to show you don't need to go to Seattle to soak it all in. Perfect list.
