The National Weather Service has issued a special weather statement for the Western Washington area, including a Winter Storm Watch for the mountains, where 1 to 2 feet of fresh snow is expected to fall by Saturday morning. Backcountry travel is not recommended during this time, due to avalanche danger.

Things are expected to calm down for the weekend. In Renton, the Saturday forecast calls for a 30 percent chance of precipitation and mostly cloudly skies with a southwest wind around 8 mph, becoming west northwest in the morning.
