Great Escape: It's Time for Seafair

Escape the doldrums of our less-than-ideal summer with a big annual party!

Seafair is here!

This weekend is typically the cherry-on-top of what is normally a stellar summer season. Fret not, the Seafair line-up is reliable and right in time — even if the weather isn’t. Whether you choose the parade this weekend, or the hydros and visiting ships next weekend, there is a day’s worth of escape around every Seattle corner.

Comedian Drew Carey is the Grand Marshal of the Seafair Torthlight Parade this year. Catch him leading the way down 4th Avenue at 7:30 p.m. on Saturday, July 30. If you really want to escape, consider buying bleacher seats (starting at $18) and save yourself the hassle of camping on the curb all day for a seat.

Fleet Week starts next Wednesday, August 3 with the arrival of the Navy and Coast Guard moored off the Seattle Waterfront. Cap off the festivities with Seafair Weekend, August 5-7. Watch the hydros race on Lake Washington from Genesee Park and be sure to find a seat in time for the much anticipated air show featuring the Blue Angels.

Escape the crowds and traffic by planning ahead and taking public transportation. The Link Light Rail will get you close to Genesee Park, and to the Waterfront for the Navy ships, but you’ll need to be parked at the Sea-Tac or Tukwila stations early.
