Flamingo Fundraiser Descends on Renton

A St. Matthew's mission trip fundraiser is responsible for the flocks of flamingos around Renton.

A curious "flock" of flamingos is making its way around Renton.

The garden-variety bird decorations belong to , and are part of a fundraiser for a mission trip to Mexico. Church members and anyone who'd like to support the cause β€” or bring a smile to their neighbors β€” can "flock" a friend's front yard for $20.

Three adults and four high school students will travel to Tijuana, Mexico in August to volunteer at an orphanage and Christian school, said Todd Hobart Life Stage Youth Coordinator at St. Matthew's.

"We spend time with the kids and do light construction and maintenance projects to help the orphanage and school, as well as learn about what life is like in Tijuana," he said.

Anyone who is interested in the flamingo fundraiser can contact Hobart at todd.hobart@comcast.net, or 425-226-2420. It costs $20 to put a flock of seven flamingos on a friend's lawn in the Renton area.
