Congressman Adam Smith Marks Farmers Market Week In Renton

Congressman Adam Smith along with Renton Mayor Denis Law visited with farmers and vendors at the Renton Farmers Market Tuesday afternoon.

On Monday, Law presented a proclamation declaring the week of August 4-10, 2013 to be “Farmers Market Week” in acknowledgment of the generous participation of local farmers and vendors to the community.

“Renton’s Farmers Market continues to be one of our most successful and enjoyable community events,” said Law. “The farmers market is very important for our local economy and everyone benefits from it–local vendors, businesses in downtown Renton, and our community.”

Congressman Smith said, “As we celebrate Farmers Market Week, it is critical that we recognize the role farmers markets can play in keeping our communities healthy with sustainable local food sources. The Renton Farmers Market is a perfect example of this as it brings our community together, offers healthy, fresh, and affordable food options that can be purchased through WIC/ Senior Farmers Market Nutrition Program, and supports the local economy by reinvesting funds back into local businesses.”
