Nearly 800 children ages 5 through 14 lined the shores of south Lake Washington near the public boat launch Saturday for the 16th annual C.A.S.T. Fishing Kids event, and Patch was there to catch the action.

Donations from local businesses and other organizations allowed each each child to take home their very own Zebco rod and reel combo, event T-shirt and goodie bag.
Many kids reached the two-fish limit thanks to a 1,200-fish stocked “pond,” where volunteers helped kids bait their hooks with night crawlers, cast into the lake and reel in their catch.
The event is more than just learning how to fish; more volunteers provided a water safety, boating and natural resource demonstration.
Renton Parks, local sportsman’s clubs and the C.A.S.T. for Kids Foundation partner for the event, which includes sponsors: Green Mountain Coffee Roasters, The Muckleshoot Indian Tribe, Dick’s Sporting Goods, Alaska USA Federal Credit Union, Renton Kiwanis, Auburn Sports & Marine, Western Bass Club, Puget Sound Anglers, Zebco and Eagle Claw.
